New England Country Foods responds to Harvard School of Public Health research on Consuming Canned Soup linked to greatly elevated levels of the chemical BPA – “We have always used BPA Free Pouches for our soups”
The Harvard School of Public Health ("HSPH") last week released the results of a new study on the source of BPA in the diet of Americans and specifically, the amount of BPA delivered by canned soup. The study was co-authored by a scientist at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention ("CDC"), a professor at HSPH and a graduate student at HSPH.
The study showed consumption of 12 ounces of canned soup on each of five consecutive days resulted in a 1,221% increase in BPA in the volunteers. The presence of BPA did not surprise the researchers ... the "magnitude of the rise in ... BPA ... was very surprising ... (we) were stunned". The study was published in The Journal of the American Medical Association and was peer reviewed prior to publication.
Americans are certainly used to eating prepared soup in cans, but with said cans significantly raising levels of bisphenol A in a consumer’s body, a new way of eating soup is essential. Bisphenol A, better known as BPA, is an odorless, tasteless chemical used in the linings of almost all canned food and drinks, and it is also found in many hard plastic bottles. Growing evidence suggests that low levels of BPA may be harmful to the development of fetuses and young children.
If New England Country Soups didn’t stand out prior to this as a leader prepared soups, it certainly does now, as they have always used BPA Free Pouches for their soups. New England Country Soups are the only BPA Free, Microwaveable Ready-to-Serve soup on shelf ... and the only All Natural, BPA Free, Microwaveable Ready-to-Serve soup and, of course, the Best Tasting Ready-to-Serve soup on shelf - the only one that "tastes as good as homemade"!
Based in Cambridge, MA the company is committed to making tasty, simple, and healthy food; and they believe shoppers have the right to know not only what is in their soup but also where it comes from and how its being delivered – all for better overall health. New England Country Soup provides its consumers with an Ingredient TrackerTM on its website to see the farm, field or ocean from which each ingredient in each 15oz. pouch is sourced. Furthermore, to reduce energy and waste, each soup is packaged in a light-weight, BPA-free microwavable pouch. In fact, the entire pouch weighs no more than the plastic lid on a microwavable bowl of Campbell's Chunky or Select Harvest soups. In comparison to ready to serve soup cans, this pouch, which weigh 2.65-2.70 ounces, this pouch is 7 to 8 times lighter! What does all of that mean? For every 10 truckloads of product shipped in pouches, other soup companies are sending 11 truckloads full of bowls. Less packaging means less energy is used to make the package and less energy consumed in transporting the package from our manufacturing facility to your store. In this day and age, less (energy) is truly more!
New England Country Soup is sold in New England at Stop & Shop, Market Basket, Big Y, Roche Brothers, and Shaw’s.
